My Students

My students are teachers first. We are a school district that invests in our students by studying children's literature. We choose books that have received positive acclaim in the blogs we read and by the professional organizations we belong to. We look for books that are written by diverse authors and that feature diverse characters.

We read children's literature to ensure that we put the best books in front of our students and to show that we are readers, too.

Students love knowing that they're reading books that the teachers have read, and our relationships with them as a community of readers deepens.

My Project

Each month, a group of dedicated, curious teachers from across our district get together to read quality literature that we can use in our classrooms. Our students love knowing that their teachers are studying the books that they are also reading.

Our KidLit study group would LOVE to read another book by Matt de la Pena.

Last year, we studied his book Last Stop on Market Street, and it was a hit with both teachers and students. We love that his books feature diverse characters and settings that provide windows and mirrors for our students. A book that reminds us to love is perfectly timed and a perfect fit for our schools.

Our budget rarely allows for the purchase of hardcover books, so this donation would provide a special treat to our group. Once we've finished our study, these books become a permanent addition to classroom libraries for students to enjoy for years to come.
