In our classroom, we work hard to challenge ourselves, do our best, and view our differences as strengths.
All 23 of my students are special because they think, learn, and respond differently.
Over 10 languages are spoken and the majority of my students come from homes where English is not the first language. There is a wide range of academic ability. As their teacher, it is my job to find ways to teach to their strengths and help each one progress towards their goals.
My Project
My students love getting cozy and snuggling up with a books as they begin to develop their foundational reading skills. Our classroom is literally a kinder-garden with leaves and plants throughout to provide a calming learning environment. The leaf and flower pillows would be the perfect addition. Many students have a hard time sitting still and prefer to sit on the ground when reading. The pillows provide them with a fun and comfortable alternative to a standard chair.
I remember how my own love of reading developed as a child when I would build a fort and create a comfy space to read my books--now, I would love to engage my own students in the same way.
Having a classroom library is wonderful and I would love to individualize the experience a little more for my students. The book boxes would give each student their own place to store books that are at their level. Students can have up to 10 books in the box and practice their reading fluency with books that interest and engage them. This exposes them to more and more texts that will help them grow and blossom as readers.
