Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

For most of my students, when they walk through my door, it is their first schooling experience. It is my goal to create respectful, responsible citizens, creative problem-solvers, and critical thinkers who are prepared for their future and have a lifelong love of learning. I have a class of 22 energetic and eager 4 and 5-year-olds. We learn best through hands-on play experiences! We are always looking for opportunities to expand our learning with new tools that promote play.

We are a culturally diverse neighborhood school striving to create innovative programs to better serve the community.

Our school is unique in that we teach core subjects via a project-based approach, through inquiry, and play-based learning!

My Project

We would love to add a couch and chair to our dramatic play area. We change it monthly by themes. I can see it turning into a waiting area at the pet vet. A comfortable seating choice for the coffee shop. A living room set for a pretend family to lounge on.

My students deserve a classroom environment that provides them choices and provides comfort.

We currently only have a few cushioned options for students to sit on and they are very popular. The Melissa and Doug couch from is comfortable, easy to clean, and durable. It would be an addition to our classroom that would last for a long time, and benefit many pre-k students for years to come.
