This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at a special education center school for students in grades K-12. Our amazing program is located in Detroit, Michigan. We serve students with a wide variety of psychiatric, cognitive, and behavioral needs. We serve students from the entire city of Detroit. Our school has fifty beautiful young people with varying strengths and weaknesses. Their backgrounds are as diverse as their abilities.

We are all unique, but we are definitely a family here.

My Project

We are so excited to be creating an innovative space for our students this year: A STEM learning lounge. This awesome space will combine STEM, recreation, and relaxation in a unique design that will be a positive incentive for our students who earn a specific amount of points in their behavioral plan. We are excited to introduce this idea and think the students will just love it!

This project will provide seating that will encourage various collaborative learning and socialization areas.

We are requesting a colorful nugget couch, hightop table with stools, and two beanbag loungers. While gathering in this space, the students will have the opportunity to utilize digital gaming, technology, engineering items, as well as recreational games. This will be a highly motivating space where our students can lounge, learn, and laugh! Please consider supporting this creative learning space for our young men and women! Thank you!
