Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I teach in a New Orleans public school. We needed basic supplies like a large classroom map of Louisiana to teach about history and learn about historical figures for this academic year. My students needed to improve their map skills and essential vocabulary on the standardized test scores. In order for my students to become successful and become great citizens of this society they will be studying history and using their map skills.

In my classroom, we need a state map for this academic year.

My students will use this map daily to work together in collaborative groups on various skills and topics. Their access to extra learning resources and materials like this giant map is very limited if they have access at all. My parents are on board, but they are swamped and working two or more jobs so they cannot contribute.

Your kind generosity will help my students feel less stressed and they will succeed. They have so much potential and are motivated to learn while working against so many barriers in our society. I want to give them as many opportunities and experiences to close all achievement and learning gaps they have.
