Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. This year our school district faced a huge budget decrease and many of the items we have had at our disposal our kiddos had to go without.
This proposal will benefit the entire school through our morning ceremony.
Every morning our entire school (K-5) meet outside at our school playground and I greet the kiddos and wish them a wonderful day of learning. We recite our declarations of who we are striving to be as we go through our day. Then we go our individual classrooms to begin our amazing day of learning.
My Project
As a school, we meet every morning in our playground to greet each other and run through our morning declarations (reminders to ourselves as to the amazing leaders and learners we strive to be). Since our school remodel a few years ago we lost our portable outdoor PA system and have been having to make due with a bullhorn and a very loud teacher. In the past we had students take up this leadership role and greet and address the school every morning, but unfortunately due to the loss of our PA system the students' voices just don't carry over the crowd so we have had very little choice but to have teachers take on this role.
As a school, we would like to have our students take ownership of their daily morning ceremony and give them a voice that can be heard throughout our community.
The acquisition of this new portable speaker and microphone would provide students with the platform to make this happen. The current bullhorn that we are using for this just isn't student friendly. As it is public speaking is very difficult then when you add the fact that you have to yell at the top of your voice just to be heard is completely daunting. As a school, we want to provide students with the ability to take ownership of their morning ceremony again.
