My Students
My students are enrolled in our school's Talented Arts Program. All of my students have shown that they excel in creating art and welcome the challenges of learning to use new materials and techniques.
To expand the students creative potential I am teaching them to create sculpture and pottery.
So far this year, they have created collage self portraits and wire figure sculptures. We are beginning a ceramics unit and the students will be creating traditional hand-built pieces before using a wheel for "throwing" pots.
My Project
There are around 40 students in the class. We are beginning a ceramics unit and the students will be creating traditional hand-built pieces before using a wheel for "throwing" pots. We have two classroom kilns, a pottery wheel and a few ceramics tools.
For my students to experience success they will need different types of clay for hand-building pottery and for throwing.
In addition to needing clay, my students will also need glazes to finish their artwork. Providing the students with a wide range of color choices will allow them to experiment and to be more creative with their pottery.
