My students are enrolled in our school's Talented Arts Program. All of my students have shown that they excel in creating art and welcome the challenges of learning to use new materials and techniques. To expand the students creative potential I am teaching them to create sculpture and pottery. So far this year they have created collage self portraits and wire figure sculptures. We are beginning a ceramics unit and the students will be creating traditional hand-built pieces before using a wheel for "throwing" pots. There are around 40 students in the class. We have two classroom kilns, a pottery wheel and a few ceramics tools. We are in need of clay, glazes and more tools. The students will use different types of clay for hand built pieces and for their work created on the wheel. Providing them with a range of choices for color and effect in their glazes will enable them to experiment and be more creative.
