This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is an urban public school in a low-income/high poverty neighborhood. The majority of our students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are energetic 3, 4, and 5-year olds who are eager to explore, discover, and learn through hands-on activities.
My classroom is a place where students can learn through play and exploration while developing the skills needed for future academic and social success. I want to introduce my students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities that will encourage them to learn through investigation and become problem solvers. Most importantly, I want my students to develop a love for learning that will continue to grow as they progress in their education.
My Project
When students return to school after staying home during the pandemic crisis, they are sure to have a lot of questions and will want to express their feelings. Students will need to work on skills such as sharing and taking turns when they return to a classroom full of other children.
A dollhouse center is a great way for children to share and take turns while practicing oral language skills to express themselves.
Students will have the added benefit of using their creativity, imagination, and fine motor skills.
I know my students will love playing (and learning) with this activity.
