Lost Library Turned Into Readers' Retreat

My students need a classroom library that is organized and easy to browse.

My Students

My students are individuals, each with their own interests, their own personality, and their own ability level. In my class, students are challenged to break the mold and think outside of the box.

My students are very energetic sixth graders in a small Alabama town.

Most students receive free or reduced-price meals. However, this does not keep them from being eager to grow as readers and learn more about US history. They take pride in their work and are excited to impress their teachers and community and look forward to making a difference in their community one day.

My Project

As a beginning teacher, one of my goals was to create an inviting and calm space for students to relax and learn to love to read in. I've sort of made that happen. I have collected enough books to fill two shelves, making it almost impossible to keep organized with shelves alone. Now, my students can't find the books I recommend. It's a daily challenge.

The lack of organization in our classroom library makes it difficult to find books.

We have over 500 titles to choose from, so many get overlooked because they are hard to find or tucked away somewhere. My class deserves to be able to find books by genre or by author (hello, Rick Riordan and Alan Gratz).

These four requested sets of book bins/containers are slim, deep, and made to hold books. They will help maximize space on shelves while organizing the many titles I have been able to collect. With the requested book tape, I hope to increase the life of well-loved paperbacks, comics, and magazines.
