This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need new library books to replace those lost in the storm surge of Hurricane Sandy.

Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 8.

Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. All of the students have been adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy.

My Project

Hurricane Sandy crippled our small waterfront community. Many have had to live for weeks with no heat or power, all have had school canceled, and some no longer have homes to return to. The books I have selected are "chicken soup" titles to heal the souls of children who are so focused on the loss of today and need to see the possibilities of tomorrow.

Please help my students see new books come in to their library to replace those washed away.

The children need to be ready to rebuild our community and these books will show them how to start.
