Loops, Spirals, and Drops...Keys to Building a Thrill Ride
My students need model kits to build amusement park rides to study motion and forces.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of us enjoy the thrills that only amusement park rides can give. There is an enormous amount of science involved in designing amusement park rides. This project will allow students to explore the physics involved in designing thrill rides.
My students represent a variety of ethnic cultures.
Many of them are from low-income families. They attend a public middle school located in California. All of my students are in the 8th grade. My students enjoy studying science, but we need hands-on materials to enhance their learning experience.
My Project
My students spend part of the school year learning about physics, with an emphasis on motion and forces. This project will fund model kits that will allow students to construct a variety of amusement park rides and cars. The kits contain motors so students can observe the motion of the thrill rides. Students can also take measurements and calculate speed.
Students need to apply their learning to the real-world in order to make it meaningful.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to exercise their creativity and demonstrate their knowledge while learning about physics.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
