This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My project was created to further expand my classroom library. As this year winds down and we start preparations for next year, I am looking at my library and seeing what students really enjoyed this year and what is missing.
As I get ready to have a new group of advisory students in my room, as well as a whole new group of 6th graders, I considered what I saw students gravitating towards all year.
There was a big love of graphic novels, so I looked for new ones that I didn't have yet. They also really loved series and getting to spend more than one book with their favorite characters. Finally, there was a request for some "murder" books as true crime grows in popularity with these young adults!
Our schedule next year allows for 30 minutes of independent reading time each day, and I am excited to start this practice with a new group of students. Creating a strong reading culture is so important to me, as I want my students to find joy in reading. Helping students find the joy in reading means I need to have plenty of books that they are excited about and want to read!
Since many of my students come in with reading levels below their grade level, it is important to have books of all levels and topics so that every student has something to read.
Thank you for your continued support of me and my students!
