Our students are charismatic and dedicated scholars. They live in a low socioeconomic area, and our school is a Title One school, which means that the majority of our students (in our case, more than 90%) receive free lunch because of their family's income.
Over 45 languages are spoken by our students and their families.
Many of our students are working diligently to develop their English language and literacy skills.
In third grade, students make a major shift in reading, from learning to read to reading to learn. It is essential that they read as much as possible to make tremendous growth this year.
My Project
Many of my students are beginning readers in English, and our classroom library hardly has any lower level books! They are eager to read but very limited in their choices, which hinders their motivation. This year, it is essential that they read as much as possible to grow as readers. These books will help them do that.
We need a plethora of lower level books for them to choose from!
The more choice my students have, the more excited they get about reading. The more excited they are about reading, the more they will read! Please help us fill our library!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
