This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders are amazing. Even though they are 5-6 years old, they have so much energy and many ideas. They are bursting to tell stories and learn. I try to provide an environment that will spur their interests and be an outlet for their creativity.
These kids do not all have an equal footing when they enter the classroom.
Some kids have better opportunities and situations while others are struggling. A classroom is a place where all children should have the opportunity to shine and excel.
I try to provide an environment that will boost their imagination so that these children can become future leaders, doctors, teachers, peacemakers or what ever their little hearts desire.
My Project
I use iPads in my classroom during literacy center time and math center time. The students are broken up into groups. I use this opportunity to have my students use apps that will reinforce what they have learned, to give them extra help in an area that they need or provide some enrichment activities.
Even though they are all young, they all speak the language of technology.
They are all fluent in technology as they share stories of their latest game conquests. So why not use this knowledge of technology and apply it to education?
Class sizes are increasing and I need more iPads in my classroom. In order to make the small groups as efficient as possible, 2 more iPads would make a great difference in classroom management and more children would be able to use it at the same time.
