My Students
"Allowing the children to play would make them better learners." My students have a variety of special needs which include language and learning disabilities, anxiety, and struggles with attention. They have amazing potential but need to have instruction tailored to their learning styles.
My students need to be able to use different modalities to make sense of the world and have the world understand them.
They need to find ways to shine as individuals while learning how to create partnerships and lasting friendships.
My Project
All children are experts on themselves. My students often struggle with words and need pictures to help them show their true selves. They can become frustrated when trying to draw and no "stock" pictures really show their personalities. By having them take pictures and videos of how they see themselves and their worlds, we are acknowledging that they matter.
My students' pictures speak volumes for what they want us to know.
By using their pictures, we can create stories - narratives and non-fiction. Their pictures are the springboard for writing and reading about them as individuals and as part of the class, school, and the community.
