Our students come to school excited to learn about and explore their world every day! However, back in August, many of our students and staff were exposed to a world they've never seen. Our community slowly began to disappear. First, the streets began to disappear, then the bottoms of our homes and businesses, our fields (along with the animals in them) and then finally when the rivers could hold no more, much of our town. Yes, Hurricane Harvey impacted many of our lives, some to the point of total destruction. Our families are continuing to rebuild and replace, but some things are lost forever. You wouldn't know the loss by my the kiddos bright and shining faces you see each day, or the perseverance they show, or the kindness and friendship they pour from their hearts, you would only know by the stories they tell.
My Project
If you've ever seen a 5 or 6-year-old in action, you've probably seen how they learn best...by doing! They are the BEST at touching and feeling everything! That being said, one of the items we use most in our class for math games (where we can touch and feel the numbers we are counting, are dice. However, as hard as I may try to make the neatest, foldable, paper dice you've ever seen, my kiddos would love the "real ones" as they call them. I would also love to add some 3-D magnetic shapes to our math center for my little "engineers" to build with and a class set of Kleen Slate boards for them to record their thoughts and answers.
