Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I teach in a high needs school. I teach 1st grade in an inclusive setting (meaning half of the students are general education and the other half are special education). The students are wonderful and full of life. In addition they bring a lot of joy and smiles into my life.

I feel that students are on their own academic journey and as a teacher I am there to help guide them on their way. I am not there to simply give them the answers. Having children's dictionaries will give students a tool they need to help them succeed, not having to always rely on the teacher for the answer. Being able to use a dictionary is an important and life long skill.

I need a set of dictionaries to help make students accountable for their own work. In addition, part of being a special education teacher is giving the students with special needs strategies (or equalizers) to compensate for their disabilities and to keep up with their general education peers. This is one strategy to help students with their work for the future.

Please make it possible for my students to have more control over their work and make them more independent.
