I teach (At Risk) sixth grade academic English. We are desperately in need of new Thesauruses. We use them with Dictionaries several times a week. From them, students can expand their vocabulary and learn new synonyms and antonyms for their words. My Thesauruses are literally falling apart. I have spoken to my principal and school librarian about this but to no avail. For most of my students this is the first time that they have ever used a Thesaurus, and some have never even seen one before! I have high expectations for my students. I feel that the only way they will grow in knowledge is to expose them to greater forms of knowledge. Good vocabulary skills are very necessary to do well on the NC EOG (End of Grade)test as well as in life.
