My Students

It is difficult to say what makes my new group of students special, since we have not yet been together, but this new cohort has the reputation of being a great group of students. Their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn will make science and social studies even more engaging subjects than usual.

My Project

Having a class set of dictionaries and thesauruses will be monumental for my classroom! On numerous occasions, I have been asked "Why would you want dictionaries and/or thesauruses in your room? I never used mine and got rid of them. The kids can just look up words online." If having dictionaries was only about the spelling of words, then they are correct.

My goal is to teach my students life skills and to use these books as a catalyst to facilitate those educational moments.

Searching in a book, without autocorrect or ‘skip to page 137’, requires students to be present and engaged in their learning. By exploring the alphabetical process to greater depths, students experience order, logical progression, and an exercise in patience. The thesaurus will challenge the students to be more articulate in their writing and in verbal discussion.
