Walt Disney is credited as saying, “Our greatest national resource is the minds of our children.” As adults, it is our awesome responsibility to preserve this resource by supporting children in the quest for knowledge. As a teacher, I have the opportunity to develop the students' love of learning.
I am gearing up for another year with some terrific second graders!
My school is a Title I school, meaning most students come from low-income homes. Sadly, school is where some come to meet their most basic needs, including food and clothing. However, this does not deter them from learning! School should be a safe place for these, and all students. Fortunately, the district now provides free breakfast and lunch for all students. Other programs are in place to provide uniforms and basic school supplies. Despite the variety of needs, our students come to school eager to learn and share experiences with their classmates!
My Project
Learning can sometimes be messy work! Sticky fingers, sneezes, and spills are common occurrences in the second grade classroom. Students do their best learning in a clean, orderly environment. Also critical to learning is a healthy, balanced diet. When students are late to school, they often miss out on breakfast.
Help me provide my students with cleaning supplies to make sure that our learning environment is clean and germ-free throughout the school year.
To help keep germs away I am asking for plenty of Clorox cleaning supplies including wipes and spray. Toothbrush holders will store individual student pencils...preventing the spread of germs during cold and flu season. I am also asking for small, healthy snacks for those students who may be in need. By helping to meet these two most basic needs, you are helping set students up for academic success!
