Help me give my students the ability to strengthen their number sense! Students need to be able to manipulate blocks to understand the value of digits in a number, and each student would have their own set! Wow!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Is it impossible for 7 and 8-year-old students to be innovative, collaborative and creative thinkers? My second graders would undoubtedly shout, "NO WAY!"
At our school, we use problem-based learning to engage learners in real-world problems and they ideate solutions that are viable.
They present these solutions to a panelist of experts, who many times, work with students to make their solutions become reality!
Our students are empowered to be problem-solvers and active members in their community and their world. Learning in our classroom is inquiry-based, hands-on, and highly collaborative. Students have many opportunities to share their thinking through multiple modalities.
Our school is a Title I school with a strong population of emerging bilinguals. My goal as a second-grade teacher is to build on the amazing identities they bring to the classroom and give them the tools to accomplish their greatest dreams. My hope is that the work we do together helps them know they can be the change they wish to see in the world.
My Project
Hands-on learning in math is essential!
These magnetic base-ten blocks would allow students to build and break apart numbers in order to develop their number sense.
We will use these blocks at the beginning of every math lesson to build our "number of the day," as well as during pivotal math lessons. These toolkits will allow students to build numbers quickly and explain their thinking. I can only imagine the ways that it will help students; especially students with learning disabilities, perform in math class.
This toolkit will be incredibly helpful in our current second-grade class and for future second graders. Thank you for your support!
