Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
No matter where you are in the school year, fresh books and new community activities can spice up learning and prepare for the remaining days and future classes! This project is full of activities and books that can be connected with larger projects and assignments to deepen learning and grow language. Just this year, 50% of my students speak English as a second language! Vocabulary is vital to learning. There will be students in and out of my room for years to come that crave new vocabulary in their second language, and the books in this project aim to provide scaffolds for bilingual learning.
The TeachersPayTeachers gift card will cover several literacy and phonics centers as well as a long-term book study or project for the end of the year!
The activities connect to our science and math curriculum to provide visuals for concepts that may be otherwise difficult for students to understand. Some of the books, like Jamaica's Find and A Chair for my Mother connect to social concepts and build classroom community. The hope for my classroom is that students will connect to other regardless of their background and make leaps and bounds toward continuous learning.
