My Students

My students are amazing, wonderful, hardworking, determined young adults. They have grown up with nothing and want to succeed. These students are from the Southwest Detroit area and are living in conditions we wouldn't wish upon our enemies. In order to be successful, students need supplies. When you have nothing, the only place you can go is up.

These kids are so determined to be successful every little step is a huge gain for them and brightens their day.

These wonderful students who are just trying to make it in the world and set out every day to do their best. But it's hard to do your best when you are met with obstacles such as hunger and homelessness. These kids suffer through things we as adults couldn't imagine ourselves going through let alone a child. On top of that these kids come to school hungry to learn and are met with obstacles again. They come to a classroom with not enough supplies, books or even computers.

How can I help these kids if I don't have the tools necessary to do so? All these kids want in life is to be successful, please help me make their dreams come true.

My Project

Our classroom library needs help! I will be doing a series of projects to fill our classroom library. Our library doesn't have very many books. My students have some ideas on how to fix this problem. The titles chosen for this project were picked by my students.

Part one of this project is to get books in the library that my students want to read.

I want to get my students excited about reading. I feel that by asking their opinion on what they want to read will help do just that. These books will help to foster a love of reading that will last them long after they have left my classroom. Student will get excited about reading chapter books that will motivated students to practice reading and keep their fluency up.
