My Students

Like many kids this past year, our students have faced a good deal of adversity in dealing with Covid restrictions, distance learning, etc. And while much of their experience has been similar to that of their same-aged peers, they're unique in that they live in a community where the economy is almost exclusively reliant on tourism. This means that when the islands shut down for the purpose of keeping community members safe from disease, many residents lost their jobs and even their homes. Our homeless numbers have skyrocketed and many of our students are living with housing and food insecurity.

When asked at a recent student-panel what they are hoping for most in their return to face-to-face learning, the students who were present expressed a deep desire to "just have some fun".

My Project

This past year has been marked by significant stress; I would like to start an after-school gaming club as a way to give kids that chance to find some joy in life again! This past year I had a chance to take a deep dive into gaming (board games) with my own kids, and am excited to bring this joy (and educational opportunity) to the students at my school!

Each week we will focus on learning a new game.

These games are not easy and require focus and attention. There will also be options for those who would like to play something more familiar (like Scrabble or Battleship).
