My Students

Middle school is the age where students start to focus on the way they fit into the world and less on academics. Knowing this fact helps me to be try and be creative with the way that I teach. My math and science students are hardworking, respectful and highly inquisitive. No matter a student's current ability, I try to foster students self-confidence and self-affect through differentiated instruction.

They always seem to amaze me with their thirst for knowledge and critical thinking skills.

When given the right circumstances I believe that all students are capable of learning. What I need are the right tools to maximize their learning potentials.

My Project

The best way to get students "locked in," is to do things that will make learning important. This project aims to engage students in the ever-so-popular "break out" scenarios, where people are given a time limit to solve clues that lead to a successful "escape."

My breakouts will include academically relevant materials for BOTH science and math classes.

Topics include Plate Tectonics, Forces & Motion and Evaluating Algebraic Expressions. When I ran one about percents I found that even my academically struggling students were more engaged in using math to solve clues to be the first to complete the challenge.

I have run an escape room with cardboard boxes which took a lot of scrounging and time to put together. Unfortunately, not all of the boxes survived the rounds of classes trying to escape. With these materials, I will be able to have materials that will last me more than 1 time.
