Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work at an amazing charter school in St. Paul Minnesota with a group of Latino students. We are a bilingual school, and my middle schoolers spend half of their day in classes taught in English, and the other half in Spanish. Many students are new or newer to our country, and some have faced some huge struggles and traumas to get away from far worse struggles and trauma. Many of my students have had TV or Video Games to keep them occupied, which makes doing things by hand harder (because it takes longer and there isn't always that instant gratification). This often makes them fidgety and have the need to walk around. With the use of fidgets and flexible seating, they will be able to lock in and focus much easier. I have seen it with other classrooms at my school with similar seating options and I would love to see that in my science classroom as well. I am also looking for some more hands on "toys" for my students who may finish early or need a break, to help build up their confidence in hands-on activities!
