it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching 18 lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving, and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children. My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute. The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
Have you ever made a loaf of bread and experienced the great smell of baking bread? Bread making is actually quite easy, once you learn some basic techniques, and get some hands-on practice. Plus, nothing boosts your self-confidence more than pulling a fragrant loaf of bread out of the oven.I am interested in having a baker named "Professor Bread" visit my Pre-K classroom and make bread with my youngsters.
My little ones will learn to follow recipes and measure ingredients.
They will also have the unique opportunity of grinding wheat into flour and make butter from scratch. They will also be introduced to rolling pins, whisks, measuring spoons, measuring bowls, and pans. For many of the children, this may be their first experience using these kitchen utensils. The children will enjoy these experiences and they will have so many wonderful memories. In Pre-K, we will tie literature on baking and bread with a follow up art project. This lesson on baking will incorporate literacy, math, social studies and science all at the same time. Research has shown that a child's first three years is critical for the development of language, attention span, social skills, and problem solving capabilities!
It's such a satisfying experience to bake and is so well suited to children as they naturally love to mix, knead, and of course, watch dough rise as it bakes. Some of the best childhood memories are born in the kitchen. This is an experience that is rapidly disappearing in our modern society. Please consider giving this opportunity to my class of preschoolers, it would be a real "gift." Let them discover why it's said, "Nothing is tastier than fresh bread."
