Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from poor inner city neighborhoods. All receive free lunch and struggle to afford basic school supplies. Most are motivated to achieve so they can pull themselves out of poverty and create a better life for themselves and their families.

My students need to be empowered to lead a healthy, safe, disease free lifestlyle.

Healthy bodies and calm minds lead to peaceful hearts. Once students learn how to instill this discipline into their lives they'll have the key to a happy future.

My Project

These materials will be used in my health classes to bring awareness to race and socio-economic factors impacting personal health and wellness.

Through readings, films, and reflection students will analyze how poverty, culture, social policies, norms and beliefs affect health, nutrition, schooling and opportunities for success.

Students will read the book, The Color of Wealth, which reveals how class affects health. Students will watch movie, Waiting for Superman, which shows how economics affects opportunity. Ultimately, students will be empowered to make healthy choices regardless of their race, religion, residence or economic situation.

Knowledge is power so more knowledge is equivalent to more power.
