Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into class every day very eager to know what the day has in store for them. They ask a lot of questions and are interested in learning about the world around them. However, their eagerness to learn is often stifled by the problems they face in their everyday lives. My students are from a low/socio-economic area, and more often than not, learning takes a backseat to their daily struggles. My goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for my students so that they can strive to learn and be a “normal” student. They can forget their troubles, even if it’s just for a little while, and be a student full of wonder and enthusiasm.
My Project
We live in a very trying time, and in order to prepare for the future, we have to look back and learn from the past. The Dust Bowl that took place after the Great Depression was indeed a very trying time.
With today’s current happenings with the COVID-19 pandemic and demands for social justice, it is important that students learn from extremely similar situations that occurred in the past, how not to forget, but rather learn and apply.
Additionally, with the pandemic, it is impossible for children to share books. Precautions must be taken, not to mention that we will most likely be experiencing distance learning once again as this virus continues to spread. It is my hope to gain a class set of these books, a copy for each child. It is important that our distance learning stay as rigorous as if we were in the classroom.
