My Students
The students in my classroom have a variety of disabilities that impact their learning. There are students with Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Disabilities, and Autism that are all struggling with reading and decoding. My students do not learn like most students and need to have a variety of ways to see, feel, and hear the material before it is mastered.
Finding the key to unlock the mystery of reading for my students can be a challenge.
Having a variety of teaching tools and strategies available increases the chances of every student finding that success. Once they are able to move beyond the roadblocks that they are experiencing, it is very exciting and rewarding to see them shine!
My Project
Lively Letters is a reading program that takes abstract letters and sounds and turns them into colorful, lively characters. It uses imagery, hand/body cues, oral kinesthetic cues, mnemonics, and songs to train students in phonemic awareness skills, speech production, and phonics. It is a program that is used throughout the United States as a supplement to a core reading curriculum. It helps close the gaps for all types of learners including those with learning disabilities, memory issues and speech and language disorders. I am requesting the Kindergarten/TLC Inclusion Bundle.
In the Special Education field, we are always looking for something that will finally click with each student.
With this program, students will be able to make connections to letters and sounds through stories, songs, and visuals. The Lively Letters Program brings the letters and sounds alive for students that have had a difficult time with conventional teaching strategies. The use of these techniques help students to learn the basic elements of reading in order to become successful readers. A combination of research based strategies and fun, enjoyable tasks will engage students so that they can find success!
