My Students

My students have a variety of challenges (physical, emotional & intellectual) that impact their learning. Most of them are eligible for free lunch and many have recently arrived from Puerto Rico due to impacts from Hurricane Maria.

The use of seating that allows for sensory input provides students assistance in self regulation and allows more of their focus to be on the task at hand.

The non traditional seating also provides variety and extra activity in their long day of academic rigor. All my students have made awesome progress in working towards grade level standards. Why not provide the accommodation of additional sensory input in a way that is also fun for my little life long learners!

My Project

My special education students always need a little wiggle room to stay focused and relaxed during challenging academic activities in small group reading and math. These Flex-Ball seats work across multiple exceptionalities, each with their own unique needs ( including English as a second language) but, but yet all the same so as not to draw attention to any single student.

Sitting on the flex seating balls allow them to gain the sensory stimulus they need keep their emotions regulated and maintain concentration in a socially appropriate manner while adding a little fun too!

They also build core balance and good posture while keeping the flex ball seats stable. Extra movement opportunities in their academically strenuous day is always great for increasing both academic and physical performance.
