This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to explore sound as a child? Do you recall the first time you tapped something you found in your everyday life and it was a musical sound? Can you remember the excitement of discovering music? I hope to bring this sense of discovery to my students.
I teach Second Grade music in an extremely low-income, high energy Elementary School.
My students have very little to bring to the classroom - few supplies, overcrowded rooms, just to name a few - but what they lack in tangible products, they make up for in excitement and enthusiasm. We don't have much, but we have amazing kids, and I feel that it's up to me to help bring a sense of wonder and excitement to their lives by helping them to explore music and sound.
My Project
I love watching students create music out of every day supplies. Boomwhackers are fun toys that are pitched musical instruments. They can be played and kids can write their own music using rhythms that they create. Boomwhackers instill a sense of creativity as well as social skills because you need to be able to work with other people in order to play them.
Your donation will help me bring music to life.
I want to watch my kids live their live out loud!!!! I hope to be able to help inspire them to create music, to explore their surroundings, to bloom as people and young musicians. Your generosity can help me do that. Please consider donating and helping to fund this project.
