Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year has presented unprecedented challenges for our staff and, most importantly, for our students. Tragically, we have lost two students to violent crimes, and many others are grappling with significant family losses. In response, we have established an after-school support group to provide a safe space for our students to process their emotions and find support.
To honor and remember the loved ones who have passed away, we are organizing a Dia de Los Muertos celebration.
This meaningful tradition allows us to create altars in tribute to those who have touched our lives, showcasing items that reflect their passions and personalities. This celebration not only offers a way to honor their memories but also helps our students work through acceptance and find closure.
By coming together in this shared experience, we aim to foster a sense of community and understanding among students who are facing similar grief. The celebration of Dia de Los Muertos will provide an opportunity for healing, reflection, and mutual support, reinforcing our commitment to their mental well-being during these difficult times.
In this celebration we will be incorporating curriculum such as writing assignments and math assignments that will deal with cost and proportions of materials. We are asking for Mexican candy and decorations that go with this event.
