I am a special education teacher working in a self-contained Autism classroom. My students are in Kindergarten and 1st grade and have a diagnosis of autism and other developmental delays. My students have a wide range of abilities, goals, and learning styles. Some students are reading and writing, while others are working on letter sound identification and developing fine motor skills.
My students are unique learners and require tremendous support and differentiation to best meet their needs.
New skills need to be taught and practiced multiple times in multiple ways. Progress may take longer, but in this classroom, even the smallest gains are big wins! We love to celebrate these moments.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help my students build their literacy skills. My students are each working on individual skills such as phonics, rhyming words, building sentences, and demonstrating comprehension. We will use these materials in one-on-one instruction, small groups, and independent centers.
Teaching students on the autism spectrum, I need to incorporate engaging visuals and integrate different sensory activities to best support their learning.
The Touch & Read phonics set takes a multisensory approach that will help my early readers touch textured dots as they segment sounds and blend them into words. The Rhyming Bingo game will allow my students to apply their knowledge of rhyming words as they play an interactive game together. The Power Pen Reading Comprehension Quiz Cards let my advanced readers independently build their comprehension skills as they receive immediate auditory feedback from their answers.
With your help, my students can get these and other activities and games they need to make progress towards their literacy goals. The engaging visuals and multisensory activities will captivate my students and meet their diverse learning needs.
