My students need to communicate the positive things happening in Room 8 . Their parents need to know what's going on in their child's "school" life. My students will create a videotaped bi-weekly report , "Live from Room 8!", and it will be shared with their parents, via Social Media.
My students are wonderful!
They are a diverse group of students in terms of race, income, gender, and ability levels. I have students who work at high levels and love to be challenged, down to students who require that extra nudge. My students are tech savvy and are ready to step up and utilize their technology and communication skills. I am proud to work in a school that embraces the use of technology in the classroom to enhance, engage, and empower our students!
Using the Ipad, along with the Ipad mount and tripod, my students will record themselves delivering a bi-weekly report, "Live from Room 8", which will be shared with their parents. During the week, the students will make decisions about what should be included in their report. This is a great step in giving students' ownership of their classroom. They will decide what is newsworthy, write a script, and report the news(anchormen/women). With the Ipad, they will take photographs(photographer) and videotape the news report(videographer). They will then edit the final report, and use Social Media(Twitter, email,etc...), to share their work with their parents! Because this project is ongoing throughout the school year, the students will have a chance to perform each of these jobs. My students will learn a number of things. They will learn to collaborate with their peers. They will develop their writing skills. They will apply the technology they are taught in a "real world" fashion.
When students are asked what they did in school, many reply, "Nothing." Your donations will make sure this never happens in our classroom again!
It will give us the resources to create a bi -weekly video news report that will get our parents excited about what's going on in our classroom. Research shows that the more involved the parent is in the child's education, the better the child performs in school. Student engagement and parent involvement,it's a win-win!
