Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a school where 85% of students receive free or reduced price lunch. My students are aged 3-5 years old, and all have Individualized Education Plans. My students are curious, full of energy and life, and always eager to learn! They love learning new skills and are proud of their own successes and those of their peers. My ultimate goal is to give my students a positive learning experience in a school setting, setting the foundation for a love of learning, and a love of school.
Students learn best through hands-on experiences and through the process rather than always having to produce a product.
We are a classroom family learning patience, empathy, and acceptance for everyone.
My Project
My curriculum consists of daily lessons in science, math, literacy, art, social studies as well as fine and gross motor development. These materials will be used by my students daily in both large and small group instruction as well as used individually. Materials such as the Magnetic Tiles Starter and car expansion set will allow my students to work with cause and effect, coordination skills, communication skills as well as creativity as many magnetic items are open-ended. Light Table manipulatives set, and Wacky Water Droppers will give my sensory seeking students opportunities to learn through their senses of touch, hearing, and sight and increase their language and vocabulary skills while exploring safe and appropriate materials.
Materials such as the Float and Find Numeral Bubbles, Wiki Sticks Alphabet Center and Feel and Find Sensory Materials will help my students with numeral and letter identification, one to one correspondence, phonemic awareness through tactile experiences and sensory exploration with washable sensory materials.
The paint and collage frames will provide my students with tactile opportunities to use their fingers to express themselves creatively. The Light Table Sensory Play Materials, Float & Find Numerals, Trace and Magnetic Learning Numbers will allow all my students multiple opportunities to use their fingers and practice their writing utensil grip before learning how to hold pencils and writing tools.
Donating to this grant will help my Preschool Special Education students with daily multi-sensory learning opportunities so they may learn new concepts in the way that is best for them to be successful. Students engaged in hands-on learning experiences often won’t even realize they are learning new concepts as they are having fun.
