Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a 1st grade, title 1, public school classroom; with a primarily ELL population. All students are on free breakfast and lunch. I'm a Disney fanatic and my classroom is entirely Mickey and Minnie Mouse themed. I like to make a fun environment for my kiddos, so far even in this distance learning scenario I know I am doing that to the best of my ability. The kiddos love to share about their lives and make me laugh on a daily basis. I average 18 students, however, right now it is a little hard to reach all of them due to lack of my own personal technology. I With little ones I constantly have to be making learning interesting to hold their attention.
However, now with distance learning more technology is needed for me, the teacher, to be successful in implementing my lessons.
Since my new group came to me in August at a mostly Kinder level, due to not having a full year last year, I am trying to make learning as fun and engaging as possible to catch them up.
My Project
My students are amazing, energetic learners. I am with them 6 hours a day fully online. They love to watch video's, play online games, and complete interactive online activities. However, right now a lot of these things freeze on my end or have a lot of lag time. This makes teaching difficult, and as eager as they are to learn the patience of a 6 year old is not very long. I am also required to do virtual small groups, however, must also be in our main Google Meet at the same time.
This MacBook Air will allow me to create fun and engaging lesson through Google Slides and the other Google Education apps (Jamboard, Docs, etc.) with ease!
It will allow me to have one computer in my main virtual classroom and one in my small group virtual classroom. It will allow me to present the lessons without glitches, that make technology and patience so challenging in this environment.
Please help me give my students lessons that grab their attention, are interactive, and work!
