Many of my students come to school from diverse backgrounds and have special needs. They love new materials and exploring the world around them. Most of my students are English Language learners and come from low-income families. These families have limited access to materials in print at home.
In our township, 78% of our students receive free or reduced lunches.
I am a special education teacher in an urban preschool and I co-teach with a teacher who specializes in students who are learning English.
My Project
Preschoolers spend lots of time learning about social emotional skills. They learn to be kind to their peers and to listen actively. Preschoolers need to see lots of examples to help them learn what kindness and active listening look like. Both of these are life skills that helps students well beyond preschool.
Quality literature can help students see how characters show kindness and how they listen actively!
Using the books in this project, teachers can show students different role models being kind to others and ways to be an active listener.
