My Students

Craving creative hands-on electrical circuit projects that you can build and operate? littleBits is your answer, and you decide what your electrical project will do. Will it spin, draw art when attached to a pencil, become a windmill? With this kit, the answer can always be yes.

I teach fifth grade students in a New York City public school and my students are from every corner of the world.

We are one of the most diverse areas of the nation and the many languages and cultures enrich our learning environment. We learn so much from one another as we embrace the international tapestry of our school community. The fact that our families are from all over the world is an asset as they value the sciences and what that can bring to the children's futures. Their support of STEM is a powerful endorsement of science in the classroom and because we have programs with science organizations and institutions, the resources we request complement what we do in the classroom. Hands-on activities are exciting and motivate our learners, and so we seek materials that promote this form of student engagement.

My Project

littleBits offers a creative imaginative electrical kit that encourages students to build whatever they can think of. The beauty of these clever kits is that they can create moving pieces that are actually functional, depending on the design and how the students assemble the pieces. The kit is a wonderful precursor to robotics and STEM investigations. littleBits encourages learning in the best possible way as students can explore what they wish to create, how it might move, and how electrical circuitry works. Students don't have to follow any plan but devise their own, constructing their own projects, learning along the way. littleBits supports constructivist learning as students construct their own knowledge using the various pieces and batteries included. Students will work in small groups to assemble their creations and explain their engineering designs.

Any classroom would be thrilled to have a littleBits electrical deluxe kit for students to use.

The kit is definitely a support of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning encouraging student innovation. We'll be pleased to bring one in to our classroom for starters for the students to share, if we receive support for our proposal. littleBits should be in every classroom, and we hope we'll have such a kit in ours.
