This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I moved from my inclusion position to a life skills classroom within the same building. I am eager to begin the year and meet all my wonderful students, but I know that I will need a variety of different materials to meet all their individual needs.

Along with the variety of special needs my students have, almost all of my students come from low- income homes.

My students require an organized and productive learning environment. My focus is to teach functional academics and daily living skills with emphasis on social skills.

My Project

The items I am requesting are educational game systems and games. Osmo is an educational game system that fosters creative problem solving, art, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and the Common Core. The various games will support the wide range of learners in my classroom.

Osmo is a great resource to integrate into my center rotations, as well a fun tool to use during free time.

Having the Osmo devices in the classroom will allow my students to practice their skills in an interactive, exciting way. For example, the Osmo will be used is as part of our word work station. Students will be able to independently practice phonics patterns. Another example of how our students will benefit from these kits is to build their number sense. They will learn how to manipulate numbers, recognize patterns to support their conceptual knowledge of mathematics. Many of our students struggle with spatial awareness and problem solving. The tangrams set will allow our students to easily visualize and self monitor their learning of these tricky skills.
