Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high-needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school community is a warm, nurturing environment and the children enjoy coming to school.
The parents of our students are working hard to make better lives for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, funny, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute. The community is diverse and considerably low-income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who have different abilities.
My Project
I love teaching Pre-K, every child becomes excited with each new activity and are always ready to try new things. The enthusiasm little children have is contagious. I feel their enthusiasm every single day. It is my responsibility to give the children the best education I can and make it a very special place to come to every day. I want them to love school.
Young children feel a sense of empowerment when they are involved in making art, whether they are painting, making things out of play doh or drawing with markers.
They have control over the materials they use and the decisions they make. Making art also builds a child's self-esteem by giving them opportunities to express what they are thinking and feeling. Small group art activities also help children practice important social skills like taking turns, sharing, and negotiating for materials. I am asking for play-doh sets, markers, finger paint, and paint for our classroom.
Many of our students are having difficulty with their fine motor skills. Many are unable to zip their clothing by themselves. To combat these problems, I will have the students use their fine motor skills to create many things with the play dough. The students really enjoy these activities. More importantly, I see an improvement in their fine motor skills which is reflected in their handwriting, their drawing, and even in tying their shoes.
The children will truly benefit from these materials. They will be making so many decisions such as what they would like to portray in art. All children are born artists! Please consider funding us for much needed art materials.
