My Students

In a Pre-K classroom, is important for my students to be introduced to literature in order to promote early literacy and develop a love of language and reading. My students would love to have a comfortable couch in the classroom to further support excitement about reading. For many of my four and five year old students, this is their first time in a school setting and I want the classroom environment to be as inviting possible. My inclusive classroom contains children with special needs and children who are English language learners. In addition, my students attend a public school where every child receives a free breakfast and lunch. Our school has very little room in the budget for extra materials. My students are bright and capable, and I know that with a strong early childhood foundation; they will all succeed in school.

My Project

Our classroom library is rich with books, but not with furniture. Right now, students crowd together on bathmats. Having more space to sit together in the library will help students talk about favorite stories, practice developmental reading skills, and develop a love for reading. Having a high-quality, attractive, comfortable piece of furniture will also tell my students that they are important. No child wants to sit on a dirty floor, and providing my students with a really great couch will show each of them that they deserve high-quality materials as much as everyone else.

Donations to this project will help to create a class of readers!

My students love books, and having a cozy, welcoming couch will help to make them excited about reading and see books as a treat.

Each student in my class will have a life changed for the better by building reading skills early to provide success in school!
