This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember Speak and Spell and Alphie and other fun ways we all learned how to read and do math? Electronics helped change my life and enjoyment of learning. Now I want my students to have the same opportunity to learn hands on.
My students are 25 very eager five and six year olds (Kindergarten).
These children are overcoming challenges every day, as they grow up in a very low income (free lunch) school in a suburb of Los Angeles,California.
My students have just begun to learn how to read and are making it very known to everyone, as they are so proud. We are using a Rainbow Word program and the children are eager to get to the pot of gold, by reading all their words. Everywhere we go (library, office, etc) the children announce and point out sight words they see. They pick up books and make up words and try to read them. Most of my students do not have opportunities at home to use computers or leapfrogs and I want to offer those opportunities in my classroom.
My students want to read and learn and unfortunately I can't sit with each student as much as they need. So the tag system will allow the children to read books independently and will help them develop stronger reading and comprehension skills.
My Project
Tag will allow the children independence to read in class. Tag will help the children learn reading skills (such as punctuation, reading for feeling, comprehension and more). With the Tag program the children will be able to hear the stories and specifically hear words they may recognize . Tag will allow the children to work with partners as the children do not need to wear head sets. So this way more children can learn at once. Students will be offered a wide variety of classic books to listen too on a daily basis.
If I made enough money I would be at the Educational Store daily buying fun, hands on activities for the children to use.
I am there at least monthly, trying to give my students more opportunities. Right now, at their age the children are desiring knowledge, they are so motivated, so excited to learn that I will do anything to help reinforce this. The schools offer the textbooks, but I want to offer the memories and chances other children their age may have.
