This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Try, Try, Try! My class is full of hard working students that are trying to learn how to read. Going from being a non-reader to an expert in one year is quite the challenge for my students. Together, we work daily on our literacy skills to promote achievement and gain a passion for reading.
Teaching in a high-needs school is often a frantic experience.
I find myself, along with other colleagues, putting in well over 60 hours a week to manage multiple interventions, meet the social and emotional needs of students, mediate conflicts when out-of-school turmoil spills over into the classroom, cope with the complexity of teaching highly mobile students, and deal with the constant pressure to prepare for high-stakes tests.
My Project
My students need 8 sets of fiction and nonfiction leveled readers to help them gain essential skills necessary for reading. The literacy tools requested would tremendously help them on their reading journey. My students would be able to utilize the tools in a variety of ways in order to learn their sight words while increasing their fluency in reading.
Just imagine what it would be like if you couldn't read.
Can you bear the thought of children in our society not being able to read? I can't! Please help us in our year long process by donating to our project. Help keep the love of literacy alive in my students now and throughout their lives!
