Little Readers Become Big Leaders

Help me give my students 18 new early readers to meet their need for reading independence.

My Project

As the librarian in a Title 1 school, I serve students that often require extra support to become fluent readers. To help our school meet this goal, we are always adding high interest fiction to entice students to read more, more, and more. We all remember the old "See Spot Run" or "Dick and Jane" readers. No one fell in love with reading through them.

But now our early readers get to read about yetis and unicorns, silly hedgehogs, and ridiculous books about adorable cats.

These are the books that teach students about the adventure and magic that is reading. These are the books that hook our students as readers, early, so that they want to come to the library every day to get a new book. They do manage to do this while promoting student independence and confidence in their reading! This is how we grow our future leaders, world changers, and problem solvers -- one interesting book at a time.
