Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching 18 lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving, and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
I love teaching Pre-K, all become excited with each new activity and are always ready to try new things. The enthusiasm little children have is contagious. I feel their enthusiasm every single day. It is my responsibility to give the children the best education I can and make it a very special place to come to everyday. I want them to LOVE School. Young children feel a sense of empowerment when they are involved in making art, whether they are modeling with clay, drawing with crayons, or making a collage from recycled scraps. They have control over the materials they use and the decisions they make. Making art also builds a child's self-esteem by giving them opportunities to express what they are thinking and feeling. Small group art activities also help children practice important social skills like taking turns, sharing, and negotiating for materials. I am asking for paint, markers, glue and other art materials for our preschool classroom. The children will truly benefit from these materials. They will be making so many decisions. One decision would be to decide what they would like to portray in art. Another decision would be to choose the media they will use and the arrangement of objects in their work. They will decide how slowly or quickly they will finish their project. Lastly, they will be given a chance to evaluate their own artwork. My goal is primarily to empower my students through art. All children are born artists!
