This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students are a diverse group of special needs and general education children who will benefit from an environment that is not only welcoming and visual but a representation of themselves.
Our school is located in a Brooklyn community of hardworking middle-class people who work so hard that their children often bottle emotions to avoid more stress on their parents.
At the height of the pandemic, these students have carried the world on their shoulders. many of them are still dealing with issues that affect their academic success. When a few of my students came to me with the idea of a reset area right inside our classroom, I knew I had to put my best efforts forward to make it happen.
With your contributions of a couch, rug, pillows, and more, we can create a calming space for students right inside their classroom. Not only will this decrease trips to the guidance counselor, but it will also combat interrupted learning since they'll only be an ear drop away!
