Our students enjoy working with each other. They practice being a citizen in the learning community by focusing on being respectful, responsible and safe. They encourage their peers to do the same.
Our students in kindergarten and first grade love to read.
They enjoy visiting the classroom library to get a good book to read or even to meet with the teacher for a guided reading or skill-based reading group.
The students in grades kindergarten and first grade know the importance of reading and working with others. Their hard work shows they will be good leaders in our learning community.
My Project
Kindergarten and first grade are very important years for our early readers. It is important that our students see print and interact with it. Sometimes during shared reading, the book is so small that our students are not able to see the print and/or make sense of the text. By using a document camera, we will be able to capture the print in the book and blow it up on the smart board for all students to see.
The document camera will help us to teach our students a reading skill or strategy that will help them to grow as readers.
It will also give students the opportunity to show their peers how they used a skill or strategy to make them a better reader.
Although the document camera can help our readers to become stronger readers, it can be used in practices other than reading. In math and science, we will be able to model how to used manipulatives to solve a math problem or observe a science activity. This will give students the opportunity to grow in all areas at school.
