My Students

I am a second grade teacher at an urban school in Indiana. I am one person, of many, who every day makes a difference in the lives of the students who enter our school. We build readers, writers, thinkers, scientists, historians, and mathematicians.

My school community is comprised of financially struggling families of all races, languages, and religions and extremely hardworking teachers and staff.

As a community, we are trying to give all the students attending our school an opportunity for a better future.

My Project

Teaching the concept of how numbers relate and work is an everyday struggle in the early grades. It's been said, "The only way to Learn mathematics, is to Do mathematics." Funding my project for an exciting new product call Math Stackers will help bring numbers to life for my students.

I am requesting sets of number stacking blocks that show students the relationship between numbers and equations in a very real and hands-on way.

For example, the blocks are tiered to clearly show, how 6+3 and 8+1 both equal 9.

This early learning opportunity will help anchor all their future learning in mathematics and serve as a reference point for complex math concepts.
